About
Roberto Prosseda has made a career out of digging up the overlooked and the forgotten. The Italian pianist, born in Latina, is best known for his deep dive into Felix Mendelssohn's catalogue, including tracking down an unfinished third piano concerto in the Bodleian Library and having it completed by Marcello Bufalini. His nine CD Mendelssohn series for Decca covers the full piano output, and he founded the Associazione Mendelssohn to keep that legacy alive. He has also championed neglected Italian composers, producing the first modern edition of a Salieri piano sonata and unearthing works by Rossini and Roffredo Caetani. Prosseda has a taste for the genuinely unusual. He gave the modern premiere of Gounod's concerto for piano pédalier, a pedal piano, and went on to record four Gounod pedal piano works for Hyperion. He also performs lecture concerts alongside TeoTronico, a robot pianist, using the contrast between machine precision and human interpretation as the whole point. On top of all that, he co founded Donatori di Musica, a network that brings live concerts into Italian hospitals.
