About
Robin Coops builds concerts that double as science fiction. Under the alter ego Sage, a kind of travelling guide, he tells stories about imagined planets through music, each one a utopia or a dystopia. This is the Exoplanets project, which runs across both albums and live shows. Underneath it sits a real curiosity about VR, AR and AI, and what those technologies might mean for the world we actually live in. Two of those planets show how his work operates. HARMONIA is an augmented reality concert set in a town where everyone communicates only by singing, a loose musical retelling of Orwell's 1984. It started as a music film and was later reworked into a live AR performance with organ, vocals and percussion. The visuals are deliberately AI generated, a choice meant as commentary on the story itself. He has also been developing a tool called VJAR with partners, which lets him VJ live straight into the audience's AR headsets rather than onto a screen.
