About
Also known as: Romy Truggelaar
Romy Monteiro made a serious impression when her debut album 'A Tribute to Whitney', a collection of Whitney Houston covers, shot straight to number 1 in the Dutch Album Top 100 in 2017. Before that, she had already won the Musical Award for Upcoming Talent for her lead role in the Dutch production of The Bodyguard, where she played Rachel Marron. She first came to public attention on The Voice of Holland in 2014, making it to the quarter finals under coach Trijntje Oosterhuis. Beyond her singing career, Monteiro has built a busy presence on Dutch television. She presents Junior Songfestival, the Dutch selection show for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, and has a recurring role in the long running soap Goede tijden, slechte tijden. She even stepped in at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest to announce the Dutch jury votes at the last minute, after Duncan Laurence tested positive for COVID 19.
