Ron Costa, the recording name of Daniel Greco Costa, is a British, Italian and Portuguese jazz pianist and composer whose music moves fluidly between jazz and Brazilian sounds, with plenty of room for world music textures along the way. His debut album Suite Três Rios, recorded in Rio de Janeiro, set the tone: inspired by the confluence of Amazonian rivers and Brazil's rhythmic diversity, it landed a silver medal at the Global Music Awards and was named one of the best albums of 2016 by DownBeat, peaking at number 5 on the Roots Music Report Jazz Chart in the US. His follow up Skyness was praised as "rare and luxurious" by All About Jazz, and his New York recorded album Beams, featuring John Patitucci, Mike Stern, Dave Douglas, Hermeto Pascoal and Dave Liebman among others, took the gold medal at the Global Music Awards. Randy Brecker, who appears on Beams and on Costa's track Iremia, praised the intricate interactions between the musicians. Rolling Stone covered him during an Indian tour, and Jazziz Magazine called his live solo piano album Live in California a showcase of "profound expression."
