About
Rosetta describe their own music as "metal for astronauts", and honestly that tracks. The Philadelphia post metal band builds their sound around a dense, layered intersection of sludge, drone, shoegazing, and ambient space, citing Neurosis, My Bloody Valentine, and Stars of the Lid as touchstones. Their 2005 debut The Galilean Satellites set the tone immediately: two separate hour long discs designed to sync and play simultaneously, one heavy and metallic, one purely atmospheric. That kind of conceptual ambition has stayed with them ever since. Over the course of more than two decades, Rosetta built a substantial catalog on Translation Loss Records before going fully independent in 2013. Their output includes the dual release of Wake/Lift alongside its companion ambient record, the sprawling sixth studio album Utopioid in 2017, and a steady stream of EPs, splits, and rarities. A 2014 documentary, Rosetta: Audio/Visual, captured the band on film, and they later released the original score as its own standalone record.
