About
Also known as: Denzel Spencer, Roy Wood$
Signed to Drake's OVO Sound at just eighteen, Roy Woods quickly carved out his own space in the Canadian R&B scene with a voice that draws frequent comparisons to Michael Jackson. The Brampton native blends alternative R&B, trap soul, and rap into something that feels both nostalgic and current, and his debut EP Exis got a serious push when Drake premiered the track "Drama" on the very first OVO Sound Radio show. His first studio album Say Less arrived in late 2017 and made a mark on both the Canadian Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200. Woods has kept building his world beyond just releasing music. He founded the artist collective Unlock the Underground, a branch of OVO Sound that brings together producers and creatives he believes in. His 2023 album Mixed Emotions featured appearances from Coi Leray, Jada Kingdom, and Vory, showing he has no shortage of like minded collaborators. That same year he also appeared on a charity recording of Serena Ryder's "What I Wouldn't Do", raising funds for youth mental health.
