Detroit rapper Royce da 5'9" built his reputation on sharp lyricism and a relentless work ethic, earning underground credibility long before mainstream recognition caught up. His connection with Eminem goes back to 1997, and the two eventually channeled that chemistry into the duo Bad Meets Evil, whose 2011 single "Lighters" featuring Bruno Mars hit number four on the Billboard Hot 100. The debut EP Hell: The Sequel landed at the top of the Billboard 200, marking the commercial peak of Royce's career so far. Beyond the Eminem connection, he co founded the supergroup Slaughterhouse alongside Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Kxng Crooked, releasing two albums together, and later teamed up with DJ Premier to form PRhyme. His solo catalogue stretches across nine studio albums, capped by The Allegory in 2020, which earned him a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. Recent output includes collabs with J. Cole on "Boblo Boat" and Eminem on "Caterpillar", keeping his Detroit legacy very much alive.
