Ruby Rushton are a south London jazz collective built around the vision of flautist and saxophonist Ed Cawthorne, better known as Tenderlonious. Their sound pulls from classic jazz traditions while staying rooted in the contemporary London scene, with a rotating cast of musicians that has included drummer Yussef Dayes and trumpeter Nick Walters. Their debut album Two For Joy came out in 2015 on the 22a label, followed by Trudi's Songbook in 2017, a richer, fuller record featuring trombone and sousaphone alongside the core band. Ironside arrived in 2019 with Cawthorne adding flute, soprano saxophone, and synths to the mix, giving the record a more textured, exploratory feel. They have also released material across two further volumes, keeping a steady and dedicated output going for fans of forward thinking jazz.
