About

Russian Circles built their reputation the hard way: eight studio albums of purely instrumental music, no vocalist, no safety net. The Chicago trio of guitarist Mike Sullivan, drummer Dave Turncrantz, and bassist Brian Cook weaves post metal heaviness with post rock atmosphere, and the results hit harder than most bands with lyrics ever manage. Their 2013 album Memorial is a fan favourite partly because Chelsea Wolfe guested on it, a rare moment of vocals in their catalog, while albums like Guidance and Blood Year were both produced by Kurt Ballou of Converge, giving them a dense, punishing sonic edge. Their sound has always been rooted in dynamic tension, quiet passages that erupt into crushing riffs, and they have backed it up with relentless international touring since the mid 2000s. Gnosis, released in 2022, continued that run and was also engineered and mastered by Ballou. Their ninth album Nine is listed in their discography for 2026, showing the band has no intention of slowing down.
