About
Also known as: SA-RA Creative Partners, The Sa-Ra Creative Partners
Sa Ra Creative Partners are a Los Angeles trio made up of Om'Mas Keith, Taz Arnold, and Shafiq Husayn, and their name nods directly to avant garde jazz legend Sun Ra. Their sound blends progressive soul, neo funk, and alternative hip hop into something that never quite fits a tidy box. Before releasing anything under their own name, the three had already racked up production credits for heavyweights including Dr. Dre, Jay Z, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, and Frank Ocean. Their debut full length, The Hollywood Recordings, came out in 2007 on Babygrande after an earlier deal with Kanye West's GOOD Music fell apart when Sony BMG dissolved the label. They followed it up with Nuclear Evolution: The Age of Love in 2009, and Om'Mas Keith's regular spot on Diddy's MTV show Making His Band brought the group to a wider audience around the same time.
