François Salque is one of France's most versatile classical cellists, at home in intimate chamber settings as much as larger orchestral work. He spent time in the Ysaÿe Quartet between 2000 and 2004, recording a wide range of repertoire including rarely heard Beethoven fragments, the César Franck piano quintet with Pascal Rogé, and Mozart's Clarinet Quintet alongside Michel Portal. His regular collaborators read like a who's who of French classical music: Éric Le Sage, Alexandre Tharaud, Emmanuel Pahud and accordionist Vincent Peirani, with whom he made the adventurous albums Est and Tanguillo. Composers including Nicolas Bacri, Karol Beffa and Thierry Escaich have written works specifically for him, and his recordings have picked up prizes from the Diapason d'or de l'année, the Victoires de la Musique and the Grand Prix du disque de l'Académie Charles Cros. He teaches at both the Haute École de musique de Lausanne and the Conservatoire de Paris.
