About
Sanam Marvi is one of those voices that stops you mid conversation. The Pakistani folk and Sufi singer performs in Sindhi, Punjabi, and Balochi, drawing on a tradition rooted in the Gwalior gharana and shaped by legends like Abida Parveen and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. She is widely regarded as one of the three finest performers in Sufi, ghazal and folk music in Pakistan, alongside Parveen and Tina Sani. She broke through on Pakistani television via the heritage music programme Virsa Heritage in 2009, then took her sound to Coke Studio and concert stages across London, Paris and New York. Her solo debut on Indian soil came at the prestigious Jahan e Khusrau Sufi festival in 2010, and she has since toured Sufi concerts around the world. She also picked up a UNESCO Award at the International Music Festival in Samarqand in 2013, making her only the second artist after Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan to receive that honour.
