Italian guitarist Sandro Fazio pays tribute to one of jazz history's most towering figures on his album Dear Trane, a jazz fusion project built around the music of John Coltrane. The record blends rearrangements of Coltrane classics such as Naima, Resolution and Sun Ship with original compositions inspired by his legacy. Fazio leads a quintet through this material, and the approach shows that Coltrane's compositions hold up on their own terms, independent of the master's own interpretations. Dutch newspaper Trouw described Dear Trane as a skillful and atmospheric record.
