Few Slovenian rock bands can claim four decades of staying true to their original sound, but Šank Rock from Velenje have done exactly that. Formed in 1982, they put out their debut album Pridite na žur in 1987 and have kept a hard rock course ever since, resisting the pull of whatever was fashionable at any given moment. That stubbornness is essentially their calling card on the Slovenian scene. The band has had plenty of turbulence along the way, including a hiatus from 1999 to 2002 and a split in 2011 before reassembling in 2014 with a refreshed lineup. Their album Senca sebe landed particularly well and stands among their most successful releases. With titles like Restart, Nekaj več, and the 2023 album Se še spomniš, they have kept recording steadily, and a 2025 live album shows they are still very much at it.
