About
San Francisco bred and New York sharpened, Sasha Berliner is a vibraphonist and composer who has been turning heads in jazz circles since her teens. Her debut full length Azalea arrived in 2019, followed by Onyx in 2022 on J.M.I. Recordings, and her third studio record Fantome dropped in 2025 on Outside In Music. Along the way she has shared stages with heavyweights like Christian McBride, Cecile McLorin Salvant, and Nicholas Payton, and she joined Tyshawn Sorey's sextet after catching his attention at the Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music. Berliner has earned repeated spots in both DownBeat's Critics Poll and Readers Poll, picking up the Rising Star vibraphonist nod, and she received the LetterOne Rising Stars Jazz Award as its North American recipient for 2018. She also has a live album drawn from her residency at the SWR New Jazz Meeting 2021, recorded at the Enjoy Jazz Festival in Mannheim. Beyond the music, she has been a vocal advocate against sexism in jazz, publishing an open letter in 2017 that drew wide coverage from outlets including The New York Times and PBS NewsHour.
