About
Sault operate as a mostly anonymous British collective built around producer Inflo and vocalist Cleo Sol, blending R&B, gospel, house, and disco with a consistent focus on Black identity and experience. They've rarely done interviews, never released a music video before late 2023, and for years played zero live shows, yet the music kept arriving at an almost absurd pace. Between 2019 and 2022 alone they dropped thirteen studio albums, including a surprise release of five full records simultaneously as a free download, which Variety called the largest amount of newly recorded music released by a relatively major artist at once. Their 2020 records Untitled (Black Is) and Untitled (Rise) earned near universal praise, with the latter landing a Mercury Prize nomination. Album 11 won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Album in 2023. Their debut live performance in London that December was widely celebrated, while a planned world tour in 2024 was cancelled. Most recently, Chapter 1 arrived unannounced in January 2026, produced by Inflo and featuring collaborations with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis.
