About
Scalp started as a joke. In 2018 guitarist Devan Fuentes and vocalist Cole Rodgers, who worked together at a coffee shop in Southern California, cooked up a satirical metal band for a Halloween house party. They called it Hellboob and went all in: costumes, fake blood, chains, strobe lights, fog and Hellraiser samples. The show blew up, and the silliness was a big part of why people loved it. After that night Fuentes and bassist Cole Sattler met drummer Luke Smith at a festival in Fontana, where he jumped on a kit to cover for another band and tossed off wild fills and blast beats. They pitched him the idea, he was in right away, and the trio settled on the name Scalp. The sound is a nasty blend of death metal, hardcore, power violence and sludge. Their debut album, Domestic Extremity, runs ten songs and closes with Depleted Mass.
