About

Scaramuccia has a knack for unearthing music the world has never heard. Founded in February 2013 by Spanish violinist and musicologist Javier Lupiáñez, this early music ensemble has performed the world premieres of multiple newly discovered Vivaldi works, pieces Lupiáñez himself tracked down. Their debut CD for Ayros captured some of those discoveries, including the first recording of the violin sonata RV 205/2. The ensemble won the Audience Award at the Göttingen International Handel Festival, voted best ensemble by the crowd. Their catalogue has grown steadily on their own Snakewood Editions label. The second album, 1717: Memories of a Journey to Italy, earned a nomination at the ICMA awards in the best instrumental baroque music category. A third record focused on newly discovered sonatas by Pisendel, and a fourth, L'Altra Venezia, brought more premiere recordings of Venetian violin sonatas to light. In 2024 they released a digital single with yet another Vivaldi world premiere.
