Born on a US Army base in Wiesbaden and raised in South Central Los Angeles, ScHoolboy Q built his reputation through a string of raw, street level projects on Top Dawg Entertainment before breaking wide open with Oxymoron in 2014. That major label debut hit number one on the Billboard 200 and spawned two certified hits: "Collard Greens" with Kendrick Lamar went quadruple platinum, and "Studio" with BJ the Chicago Kid went triple platinum. His sound sits at the intersection of West Coast gangsta rap and trap, gritty and vivid in a way that feels genuinely lived in rather than performed. As a core member of Black Hippy alongside Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, and Ab Soul, Q has always been part of one of rap's most creatively fertile crews. His run of albums after Oxymoron kept that momentum going, with Blank Face LP and Crash Talk both landing in the top three of the Billboard 200. His sixth album Blue Lips, released in 2024, hit number 13 and earned some of the strongest reviews of his career. Five Grammy nominations along the way confirm that his peers and the industry have been paying close attention.
