Seán Morgan-Rooney (IE)

About

Seán Morgan Rooney is an Irish pianist who is also in demand as a composer and arranger, and that second side shapes a lot of what he plays. He has made arrangements of traditional Irish harp songs that bring back the feel of Turlough O'Carolan, the baroque Irish harpist, which gives his programmes a distinctly Irish thread. On the classical side, he has played pieces from Prokofiev's ballet Romeo and Juliet alongside three movements from Ravel's Miroirs, the suite in which Ravel sketched portraits of fellow members of the artists' club Les Apaches. He is regarded as one of the more promising young pianists to come out of Ireland, and he is well suited to small, close settings where the music and the player share a room with the listener.
