Sean Shibe is a Scottish guitarist whose playing spans classical acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and renaissance lute, and who has a habit of making critics run out of superlatives. His 2017 debut, Dreams and Fancies on Delphian Records, entered the UK Classical Specialist Charts at number three and prompted BBC Radio 3's Record Review to call it slightly stunning, while The Arts Desk simply declared it the best solo guitar disc they had ever heard. His second album, softLOUD, mixed Steve Reich's Electric Counterpoint with works by David Lang and Julia Wolfe, and picked up the inaugural Gramophone Award for Concept Album of the Year. The third Delphian release, BACH, held the top spot on the UK Official Charts for seven weeks. Since signing with PENTATONE in 2020, Shibe has kept up a remarkable pace, releasing a string of albums including Profesión, which won the BBC Music Magazine Instrumental Award in 2024. He also performs Georges Lentz's hour long Ingwe for solo electric guitar, a piece he once played at ear splitting volume at Wigmore Hall, sending more than twenty audience members heading for the exit.
