About
SeaSession is a music ensemble that works at the intersection of theatre and concert performance. The group contributed the musical backbone to Regarde bien, a music theatre production built around the final album of singer and composer Jacques Brel, Les Marquises, which he recorded on the island of Hiva Oa in French Polynesia. The show weaves that material together with the history of French nuclear testing in the Pacific and the sinking of the Greenpeace vessel Rainbow Warrior, giving Brel's chansons a layered, politically charged meaning. Directed by Ola Mafaalani and developed from a concept by Pauline Post and Mafaalani, the production pairs SeaSession's live instrumentation with the storytelling of actor Hein van der Heijden, combining personal odes and political history into what the makers describe as a musical and visual spectacle.
