About
Five women, five recorders, and a catalogue that ranges from Renaissance polyphony to newly commissioned contemporary works: Seldom Sene is not your average early music ensemble. Founded in Amsterdam in 2009, the quintet made an immediate impression at the 2014 Utrecht Early Music Festival, walking away with the First Prize, the Audience Award, and the Press Prize of the International Van Wassenaer Competition all at once. Since then they have built a discography of seven albums on Brilliant Classics, showing real range along the way. Their debut Taracea drew praise from Gramophone and The Irish Times, while a later record tackled Bach's Goldberg Variations arranged for recorder quintet. They have also collaborated with soprano Klaartje van Veldhoven, gathered freshly commissioned pieces on Not a Single Road, and explored Baroque concertos in arrangement form. Their most recent album, Fortune Infortune, is a portrait of Margaret of Austria.
