About
Winning the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels in 2003 is the kind of career moment that defines a pianist, and for Severin von Eckardstein it cemented his place among the top classical pianists of his generation. The Düsseldorf born German pianist impressed the jury with a program that paired Beethoven and Prokofiev, a combination the jury reportedly called phenomenal. Before Brussels, he had already been turning heads at major competitions, finishing third at the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition in 2000. He studied with Karl Heinz Kämmerling in Hannover and later with Klaus Hellwig at the Berlin University of the Arts, rounding off his training at the International Piano Academy Lake Como in Italy.
