About
Also known as: Şehram Nazirî, شهرام ناظری
Shahram Nazeri holds a remarkable distinction in Persian music: he was the first musician to weave Rumi's poetry into Persian classical composition, effectively creating a tradition of Sufi music that spans both Persian and Kurdish forms. Born in Kermanshah, this Iranian tenor of Kurdish origin has released over forty recordings, and his 1984 album Gol e Sadbarg still holds the record for the highest selling album in Persian classical and Sufi music history. He has shared stages with masters like Hossein Alizadeh and Parviz Meshkatian, and performed at prestigious venues from the Festival of Avignon to the Tokyo Summer Festival. Nazeri has never shied away from political conviction. At a 2014 concert in Kermanshah he sang a Kurdish language song that drew condemnation from Iranian authorities, and in 2019 he cancelled his annual concert in Konya in solidarity with Kurds affected by Turkey's offensive into Rojava in Syria. He has also collaborated closely with his son Hafez, a composer in his own right.
