Sharon Kam is one of those rare clarinettists who can hold her own as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic one week and bring real intimacy to a chamber music session the next. The Israeli German musician won the ARD International Music Competition in 1992 and picked up the ECHO Klassik prize as Instrumentalist of the Year twice, first in 1998 for her Weber concertos with the Gewandhaus Orchestra under Kurt Masur, and again in 2006 for a disc featuring Spohr, Weber, Rossini and Mendelssohn. Her 2002 recording of American Classics with the London Symphony Orchestra earned the German Record Critics' Prize. She has premiered works by Krzysztof Penderecki and Herbert Willi, among others, and her 2006 Mozart performance at the Prague National Theater was broadcast live in 33 countries. On disc she plays everything from Copland and Bernstein to Brahms quintets and Hindemith, using Buffet Crampon clarinets throughout. Since 2022 she also holds a professorship at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover.
