About

Sheer Terror were one of the first hardcore bands to drag heavy metal kicking and screaming into the pit, and the result was a sound that helped define a whole generation of heavier hardcore. Coming out of New York City in the mid 1980s, they built their reputation on ferocious guitar tones with an obvious Celtic Frost obsession, backed by frontman Paul Bearer's confrontational, obscenity laced stage presence that people either loved or found deeply uncomfortable. Their debut full length Just Can't Hate Enough, recorded live at CBGB by Prong's Tommy Victor, quickly became a touchstone for the emerging heavy hardcore sound alongside bands like Biohazard and Killing Time. The band kept grinding through constant lineup changes, a shelved album, and an ill fated major label stint on MCA before finally splitting in 1998. They reunited briefly in 2004 for two shows back at CBGB, which felt fitting given how much of their story played out on that stage.
