Shemekia Copeland has been carrying the torch for electric blues with serious conviction, earning the title "New Queen of the Blues" when Koko Taylor's daughter officially crowned her at the Chicago Blues Festival in 2011. Growing up as the daughter of Texas blues legend Johnny Copeland clearly left its mark, and her voice has drawn comparisons to the greats ever since her debut Turn the Heat Up landed on Alligator Records in 1998. She's racked up nine Blues Music Awards and five Blues Blast Music Awards over a twelve album career, with America's Child sweeping Album of the Year honours in 2019 and Done Come Too Far following in 2022. Her most recent record, Blame it on Eve, pulled in three Grammy nominations at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, covering Best American Roots Performance, Best American Roots Song, and Best Contemporary Blues Album. The recognition keeps stacking up.
