Shola Ama burst onto the UK scene in 1997 with 'You Might Need Somebody', a cover that climbed to No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart and stayed in the top 40 for nearly two months. The follow up re release of 'You're the One I Love' went even higher, hitting No. 3, and by the end of that year she had a debut album, Much Love, and a Brit Award for Best British Female under her belt, along with two MOBO Awards for Best Newcomer and Best R&B Act. Not bad for someone who was first spotted singing to herself on a Hammersmith tube platform at 15. Her second album, In Return, brought in serious production talent including Stargate, Fred Jerkins III, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Angie Stone and Babyface, but it didn't connect commercially the way Much Love had. She kept at it though, releasing Supersonic in 2002 through a deal with Pony Canyon and showing up on high profile tracks like 'You Should Really Know' by the Pirates in 2004. In 2015 she came back with a reggae influenced eight track EP called Surreal, proving she was far from done.
