About
Born in Tokyo, Shunske Sato picked up a violin at the age of two, and that early start set the tone for a career spanning performance, conducting, chamber music and teaching. He served for a long time as artistic director and concertmaster of the Nederlandse Bachvereniging, and historically informed performance practice sits at the core of everything he does. His Sunday afternoon baroque series brings together like minded musicians to explore repertoire from the baroque era and its edges, including works connected to the court of Frederick the Great in Potsdam, where composers such as Quantz, Benda and C.P.E. Bach all worked. The programme often closes with Bach's Trio Sonata, a piece that sits right on the boundary between baroque and classicism. Away from music, Sato has a keen interest in languages, history, interior architecture and cooking.
