About

Silbersee is a music theatre company that creates ambitious interdisciplinary work sitting somewhere between opera, dance, visual art and contemporary performance. Their production Amor Matador reimagines the world of Georges Bizet's Carmen, stripping the heroic matador to a secondary role and placing two women, a lover and a mother, at the centre of the drama. The score is the work of American composer and drummer Brendan Faegre, who takes Bizet's source material apart and reassembles it into something altogether new, built around acoustic guitar, electric harp and the low rumble of a bull. Collaborators on the piece include actress Ariane Schluter, Burkinese multi instrumentalist Kaito Winse and Argentine tenor Jonatan Alvarado, with direction by Aïda Gabriëls. The ensemble Het Muziek, formerly known as Asko|Schönberg, performs alongside them.
