Few Turkish pop careers have been shaped quite so dramatically by a single cover version. Simge, born in Istanbul, spent years as a backing vocalist for big names like Gülşen and Serdar Ortaç before releasing her debut EP Yeni Çıktı in 2011, which quietly flopped. Her real turning point came in 2015 with "Miş Miş", a Turkish take on Riff Cohen's "Dans mon quartier" that sat at number one on Türkçe Top 20 for four weeks and kept her busy with 200 concerts before the year was out. Influenced by Sezen Aksu, Simge leans into dance pop with a flair for musical variety, something critics noticed when her debut studio album Ben Bazen arrived in 2018. Songs like "Yankı", "Ben Bazen" and "Öpücem" kept her locked in the Turkish charts' top three, and by 2018 she had become the second most streamed female artist in the country. Three Golden Butterfly Awards and two Radio Boğaziçi Music Awards sit on her shelf, and her songs have been a fixture on Turkish radio and television since 2015.
