Stuttgart's Sinner have been flying the flag for German heavy metal since 1982, built around the restless energy of vocalist and bassist Mat Sinner. The early records were raw and aggressive, but the band found their stride with a more melodic approach through the late 1980s and into the 1990s revival, when albums like Judgement Day and The Nature of Evil pushed them to new heights. That latter record peaked at number 63 on the German albums chart and sold over 100,000 copies, making it their most successful original release. Along the way they shared stages with Deep Purple, Mr. Big and Savatage. Mat Sinner has kept both Sinner and Primal Fear running in parallel for decades, which says a lot about the man's drive. Sinner's back catalogue now stretches to twenty studio albums, with Brotherhood arriving in 2022. Over their career they have shifted more than a million records worldwide, a solid achievement for a band that built its fanbase almost entirely through word of mouth and relentless touring.
