About
Also known as: Ska P, SkaP
Ska P are a ska punk band from the Vallecas district of Madrid, and their name is itself a little joke: it sounds like the Spanish word for 'escape' while nodding to ska punk and the letter K, a symbol of working class pride in their neighbourhood. Politically they lean hard anti establishment, sometimes described as anarcho communist, but musically they back that up with tight, well rehearsed arrangements and a full brass section. Albums like Planeta Eskoria and the five album run that followed built them a serious following across Europe and Latin America. After calling an indefinite hiatus in 2005, complete with a 10,000 capacity farewell show at La Cubierta and a final date in Buenos Aires, they came back together in 2007 and released Lágrimas y gozos in 2008. The band has since toured Japan for the first time and continues to put out music, with the track Jaque al Rey appearing in 2018.
