SKisM, the alias of Thomas Petais, built a reputation as a dubstep heavyweight whose technical skills behind the decks earned him the nickname "the DJ's DJ" among peers and collaborators. His sound pulled from an unusually wide range of references, threading heavy metal, drum and bass, ethnic samples and breakbeats into tracks that felt genuinely abrasive and inventive rather than formulaic. Highlights of his run include the 2012 single Like This with Virus Syndicate, which sat at the top of Beatport's Top 100 for a full month, and the collaborative track Jump Back with Flux Pavilion and Foreign Beggars, a grimy, hard hitting cut that became a fan favourite. Beyond his own productions, Petais co founded two influential electronic labels, Never Say Die Records and Disciple Records, shaping the sound of a wider scene well beyond his own releases. From around 2015 he stepped back from producing to focus on running the labels and executive producing for other artists, and in 2021 he officially retired from performing and producing altogether.
