Brooklyn's Skyy built their reputation on a tight blend of funk, disco, and R&B that kept dancefloors busy from the late 1970s onward. Signed to Salsoul Records in 1978, the group hit their stride with the 1981 album Skyy Line, which spawned their signature track "Call Me", a number one R&B hit that also crossed over to number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100. That album went Gold, cementing their place in the New York funk scene. After a mid 1980s stint on Capitol Records with the album From the Left Side, including the top ten R&B single "Givin' It (to You)", Skyy resurfaced on Atlantic in 1989 with Start of a Romance. That comeback delivered two more number one R&B hits in "Start of a Romance" and "Real Love", the latter also cracking the pop charts. The Dunning sisters have kept performing since, including a notable appearance at the Salsoul Reunion Concert alongside Carol Williams and Instant Funk.
