About
SLADEK is a retro soul act built around vocalist and guitarist David Sladek, alongside bassist Alvis Reid and drummer Bernhard Sorger. The Austria based trio formed in 2019 and spent their early years developing a sound rooted in R&B melodies and neo soul, releasing Daydreamin' in 2019 and the Fabricated Reality EP in 2021 and 2022. Working with producer Mathias Garmusch, they gradually shifted toward the earthier soul sounds of the late 1960s, a move that took shape on the 2024 EP Loveless. That direction carried through to the album Things Gotta Change, which features tracks like Stranger and Here to Stay, recorded using an analogue setup that gives everything a warmer, more honest feel. On stage the band expands to a five piece, with Taineh on keys and backing vocals and Gloria Handler on percussion. Live, they have a reputation for sets that pull the emotional and rhythmic weight of soul music to the surface.
