About
Smerz are a Norwegian electronic duo, Catharina Stoltenberg and Henriette Motzfeldt, whose music sits somewhere between deadpan electro pop, dry humor, and genuine sensuality. Their name is lifted from the German word herzschmerz, meaning heartache, which tells you something about their sense of irony. After signing with XL Recordings in 2017, they released the EP Have fun in 2018, then their debut album Believer in 2021, followed the same year by the mixtape Før og etter on their own label, Shopping. They also host a monthly show on NTS Radio, a slot they have kept going since 2017. Their live circuit has taken them through venues like Berghain, Tate Modern, MoMA PS1, and Roskilde Festival. A 2025 YouTube upload titled You got time and I got money suggests they have been back in the studio and working on new material.
