Snoh Aalegra has one of the more quietly compelling backstories in contemporary R&B. The Uppsala born Swedish singer spent years building her craft before landing a deal with producer No I.D.'s ARTium Recordings in 2013, and it was around that time that Prince himself discovered her music and became her mentor until his death in 2016. Her debut album Feels came in 2017, described as a nostalgic blend of soul and R&B, a sound she calls "cinematic soul". Drake sampled her single "Time" on his mixtape More Life, which says something about the caliber of her work. Her second album Ugh, Those Feels Again landed in 2019 and pushed her to a whole new level, with "I Want You Around" hitting number 1 on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart. She followed that with Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies in 2021, released through ARTium Records and Roc Nation, which earned her Grammy nominations for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance. Her sound pulls from soul, trip hop and contemporary R&B, and she has collaborated with the likes of Vince Staples, Common and RZA along the way.
