About
Son of Dave is the solo project of Canadian musician Benjamin Darvill, a one man band built around blues harmonica, beatbox, and raw lo fi grooves. Before going solo, he played harmonica, mandolin and percussion in the folk rock act Crash Test Dummies, but his heart was always in the gritty blues tradition he grew up with. Over more than two decades he has recorded 11 albums and played more than 1400 shows, including sets at Glastonbury and the Montreux Jazz Festival. His album Shake a Bone, recorded with producer Steve Albini, earned serious press attention, and songs from it turned up in Breaking Bad and the AMC series Preacher. His 2022 record Call Me a Cab drew on New Orleans rhythm and blues and landed him a nomination for Blues Artist of the Year at the Western Canada Music Awards. After years based in London, Darvill returned to his hometown of Winnipeg, and his 2024 album A Flat City channels that homecoming with a gritty, bluesy sound.
