About
Sonico Quintet is a Brussels based tango ensemble built around the music of Argentine composer Eduardo Rovira. Rovira is often called the other Astor Piazzolla, since he helped shape tango nuevo in Buenos Aires in the early 1950s, and the group treats his repertoire as a living thing rather than a museum piece. Its openness to jazz, classical and world music has taken it to festivals in all of those worlds, across Latin America and Europe. The lineup is bandoneon (Lysandre Donoso), violin (Stephen Meyer), guitar (Alejandro Schwarz), double bass (Ariel Eberstein) and piano (Ivo De Greef). Their debut album, Eduardo Rovira: La Otra Vanguardia, was presented in Buenos Aires at Tango Festival BA, one of the biggest tango festivals around.
