Sophie Alour is a French jazz saxophonist, clarinettist and flutist from Quimper whose sound spans everything from intimate trio settings to big band collaborations. She won the French Django d'Or talent award in 2007, a recognition that came on the back of her second album Uncaged, a sharp and inventive record featuring pianist Laurent Coq and guitarist Sébastien Martel. Her debut Insulaire, released in 2005, was largely self composed and announced her as a serious voice in contemporary French jazz. Over the years she has worked with a remarkable range of collaborators, including Stéphane Belmondo, Wynton Marsalis and Aldo Romano, while also carving out a distinct identity through her own projects. Her 2012 quintet album La géographie des rêves brought in vibraphone and flugelhorn for a particularly rich palette, and she kept up a steady output into the 2020s with releases like Joy, Enjoy and Le temps virtuose.
