Sophie Milman has one of those voices that makes jazz feel both effortless and deeply felt. Born in Russia and based in Canada, she built a reputation as one of the country's most compelling jazz vocalists, winning the Juno Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year in 2008 for Make Someone Happy. A Grammy nomination followed a decade later, tied to her contribution to the Yiddish Glory project. Her discography spans a handful of well regarded records on Linus Entertainment and eOne, including Take Love Easy and In the Moonlight, with a live DVD from Montreal and another from Toronto's Winter Garden Theatre capturing her in concert. Her recording of So Long, You Fool found an unexpected second life in Air Wick candle commercials. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto, which says something about the range she brings to everything she takes on.
