About
Five classically trained German musicians who perform with the attitude and energy of a rock band: that is Spark, also known as the Classical Band. The quintet brings together an unusually wide range of instruments, including recorders, melodica, violin, viola, cello and piano, and uses that sonic variety to move freely between musical styles. The group has built a reputation for erasing the boundaries between classical chamber music and other genres, and has grown from a fresh new ensemble into one of the more talked about German music exports on the international circuit. Their programme Closer to Paradise is a good example of how far they stretch: the setlist runs from Vivaldi and Schumann to Kurt Weill and even Barry Manilow. The five members are Daniel Koschitzki, Andrea Ritter, Stefan Balazsovics, Isabel García Castro and Christian Fritz, and they have collaborated with countertenor Valer Sabadus, a specialist in baroque repertoire.
