About
Spijkerblues are a blues band from Haarlem with a collective stage experience among their members that adds up to over a century. The group revolves around vocalist Monica Boelen, who reached the finals of the Blues Challenge in 2016 as part of Bluestreat. Her raw, soulful voice is very much the centrepiece of what they do. The band's sound mixes straight up blues with funk, rock and soul flavours, and their sets draw on covers of artists like Beth Hart, Janis Joplin, Etta James, Shakura Saida and Sharrie Williams. The lineup features Ronald Rademakers on keys, Erik Heskes on bass, Marc Schijen on drums, and two guitarists in Peter Bekker and Peter Poortman.
