Spineshank came out of the L.A. scene in the late 90s with a sound that sat somewhere between Fear Factory's mechanical bite and the groove of nu metal. Dino Cazares of Fear Factory heard a demo and handed them an opening slot, which caught the ear of Roadrunner Records and led to a seven album deal. Their debut Strictly Diesel arrived in 1998, with Burton C. Bell guesting on the track Stain, and The Height of Callousness followed in 2000 with a much heavier industrial streak. That record took them to Ozzfest in 2001. Their third album, Self Destructive Pattern, produced the single Smothered, which earned a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance. Vocalist Jonny Santos left in 2004, the band drifted, and then he came back in 2008. The reunion eventually produced Anger Denial Acceptance in 2012, with lyric videos like Murder Suicide rolling out around its release.
