Stacey Kent has sold more than two million albums worldwide and racked up over a billion streams, which is a remarkable achievement for a jazz singer working in a genre that rarely commands those kinds of numbers. The New Jersey born vocalist built her reputation in London's Soho club scene in the 1990s before landing spots at Ronnie Scott's, and her warm, intimate vocal style drew comparisons to the great American standards tradition while she steadily pushed into bossa nova and French chanson. Her album Breakfast on the Morning Tram went Platinum in France and earned her a Grammy nomination, and Raconte moi, recorded entirely in French, became the second best selling French language album worldwide in 2010. A big part of what makes Kent's catalogue distinctive is her creative partnership with her husband, saxophonist Jim Tomlinson, and Nobel Prize winning novelist Kazuo Ishiguro, who writes lyrics for her songs. Their first collaboration, "The Ice Hotel", won the International Songwriting Competition in 2008. Her 2017 record I Know I Dream brought a 58 piece orchestra into the mix, and her 2021 album Songs From Other Places won Best Vocal Performance at the Jazz Music Awards.
