About
StarkLinneman Trio has made a name for itself by taking classical repertoire and pulling it firmly into the present, without dismantling what made the originals great. The group has applied this approach to works by Liszt and Chopin, and more recently to Beethoven's Piano Sonata, opus 28, in a programme called Transcending Beethoven. The core structure of each piece stays intact, but the trio layers on contemporary rhythms and modern harmonies, and leaves room for adventurous improvisation. The result sits somewhere between faithful interpretation and bold reinvention, making it hard to file under either traditional classical or anything else neatly.
