About
Stein Urheim is a Bergen guitarist and composer who has spent the last decade quietly building one of the more interesting catalogues in Norwegian jazz. His solo records come out on the Hubro label, six of them so far, starting with Kosmolodi in 2012 and running through a self titled album, Strandebarm, Utopian Tales, Simple Pieces & Paper Cut Outs and Downhill Uplift in 2020. A big part of his story is his long partnership with singer Mari Kvien Brunvoll. The two started working together around 2006 at the Grieg Music Academy and went on to make three duo albums for Jazzland, including Daydream Community and Daydream Twin. Before all that he won the Vossajazz Award in 2010, a year after his debut Three Sets of Music. His name also turns up all over other people's records, from Gabriel Fliflet's Åresong band to The Last Hurrah, Thea Hjelmeland and Erlend Apneseth's Nattsongar.
