Brooklyn born and Chicago seasoned, Steve Freund has spent decades carving out a serious reputation as one of the more genuine electric blues guitarists working today. He moved to Chicago in 1976, soaking up the city's deep blues tradition before eventually settling in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he built his strongest following. His discography stretches back to 1984's Set Me Free and covers a solid run of albums, including a 2004 collaboration with Dave Specter called Is What It Is and Come On in This House from 2013. Along the way he has performed at major festivals including the San Francisco Blues Festival and the Chicago Blues Festival, and he also turned up as a guest alongside Rusty Zinn on R.J. Mischo's 1999 release West Wind Blowin. Freund works as a guitarist, singer, bandleader and record producer, keeping the full sweep of the blues tradition very much alive.
